Conventional manual layout can add significantly to the costs of authoring. An automated layout with SCHEMA ST4 avoids these extra costs because it superimposes the layout on the content after the authoring.
The benefit is that you get a uniform layout that can be used for any combination of text from a single source.
We create the PLD or OMD templates to ensure that your layout meets all your visual and functional requirements. Simplicity is required to avoid reworking, especially for large instruction manuals. Thus, an automated layout enables all your documents to be published very quickly and affordably (e.g. as PDFs). Once the layout is established, it’s in place for all of your documents. Updates to the layout can be made later and then quickly transferred to all your documentation.
In addition to the standard PDFs, Framemaker, InDesign or Word files are also possible for published output. These formats can be processed further in the corresponding desktop publishing programs.
PLD and OMD templates
One of SCHEMA ST4’s key advantages is that templates can be created for directly generating print and e-publications. Scriptor’s classical expertise covers paragraph, font and character formats as well as the structures that make up a good layout. However, it is also essential to master the functions of the Page Layout Designer (PLD) and the Online Media Designer (OMD) in order to implement customised layouts in Schema ST4. Templates for automatically generating publications can do many things, but not everything. Manual reworking is necessary and desirable within the framework of the layout recall.
Layout recall
Layout recall combines the advantages of automation with a more complex layout and the demand for precision. The processing time and costs are reduced considerably. The recall in ST4 enables changes to be made to tables or page breaks. These can also be language-specific or optimised for four-page printing. These specifications can be saved and transferred to other recalls.
