Exploiting the language databases when translating the manuals

Localisation refers to the process of translating and adapting to the particular country-specific conditions. Many terms are formulated to fit the culture and language of users in the target country. The localisation of software is a special challenge, since the company guidelines and technical specifications must be considered.
Our translators are familiar with this challenge, and we often use Passolo, a program for localising software interfaces. There are many export and import formats available, so that text can be corrected and, after approval, transferred directly to SDL Studio for use when translating the manuals.

Localisation with Excel or Word
Translating texts for user interfaces within Excel or Word is possible – yet these program have disadvantages that can only be compensated for with much experience. The number of characters per data field, which is often a very restrictive criterion, does not track well here. Information that is not relevant for the translation is exported, there is no repetition monitoring, and a spell check is problematic.
The character encoding also requires much expertise and time to preserve properly. You can trust our expertise and experience here, because localisation using Excel files is a very common scenario.
