You are here: Technical documentation1 / Analysis2 / IEC 82079-1

The new ISO/IEC 82079-1 standard provides more precise specifications for the design of operating/user manuals for consumers and B2B. It also defines quality criteria for the authoring process. The focus is on professionalism and finding the proper target group.

Qualifications for authors and translators are defined for authoring, design and translation. There are also recommendations for the methodical structuring of the manual and the dual control principle for the master review and translation. Scriptor’s customers know the advantages that this workflow offers.

In safety instructions, certain signal words are prescribed; a clear distinction is made between safety instructions, warning notices and warning signs. Our customers have the advantage here because, by using ANSI 535.6, these specifications are already implemented in their manuals.

This standard defines the steps required in an authoring and translation project. These steps are embedded in Scriptor’s workflow, because we’ve defined and structured this process before it was specified in the standard.

Analysis of your documentation

Using the standard and our checklists, we check within the scope of an audit where the documentation complies with the standard and where it is not. These results are listed in writing and commented on where necessary.

Updating conformity to standards

We can implement the analysis results and provide standard-compliant documentation according to ISO/IEC 82079-1.
